Sermons in “Deep Roots”

Uptown Contemporary Service, “The Baptized Life”

The Apostle Peter takes us into deep waters by suggesting that “baptism now saves us,” like Noah and his family was saved from the flood in Genesis 6-9. Baptism is like a second flood, except it’s not a flood of wrath, but a flood of grace. God’s grace poured out in water and the Holy Spirit floods our souls and begins the hard work of suffocating the old Adam in us, so that he can bring forth new life in us from the one who walks on water, Christ Jesus.

Uptown Contemporary Service, “In the House of the Lord, We are All Saints”

What does it mean for God to say that the Church is Holy, if it is filled with sinners like you and me? Why does God continue to love us even though we sin? The line in the Nicene Creed that says, “we believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church” is not just about what the Church is, but also a declaration about how much God loves his Church.
