BEHOLD HIS GLORY

Worship With Us

At Church of the Incarnation, we gather each week to worship in the Great Tradition of the Church. As we come to Holy Week, it is the high point of the entire church calendar. In these days, we find our place in the story of Jesus' final days on earth before he goes to the cross. We invite you to enter the story with us.

The Triduum

The "Three-Day" liturgies of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil (Saturday), compose the culmination of the church calendar year known as the Triduum.

Thursday, April 17

The Triduum begins with the liturgy for Maundy Thursday, during which we remember the joy of the institution of the Eucharist, the love and service which Jesus lived and taught, the agony in the garden of Gethsemene, and the betrayal leading to the crucifixion.

SERVICE TIMES:

  • 12 p.m., Spoken Eucharist (Memorial Chapel)
  • 7 p.m., Holy Eucharist with Foot Washing & Stripping of the Altar
    • Traditional (Main Church) Livestream Available
    • Contemporary (Ascension Chapel) Livestream Available
    • Childcare offered (birth to 5 yrs)

Friday, April 18

As we read the Passion and pray the Solemn Collects, we remember that it is our own sins that caused Christ's suffering and agony. By the cross, we are redeemed; it is a sign of God's never-ending love for us, a sign of life, in the midst of death.

SERVICE TIMES:

  • 12 p.m., Veneration of the Cross (Main Church)
    • Childcare offered (birth to 5 yrs)
  • 6 p.m., Veneration of the Cross
    • Traditional (Main Church) Livestream Available
    • Contemporary (Ascension Chapel) Livestream Available
    • Childcare offered (birth to 5 yrs)

Saturday, April 19

The Easter Vigil marks the end of Lent. As we begin, the church pauses in the darkness of the tomb. Adult baptisms happen here. Then we share the first light of Christ’s resurrection. Bells ring! We all shout Alleluia! It’s the first service of Easter.

SERVICE TIMES:

  • 8-10:30 p.m., Easter Vigil, Baptisms, and the First Eucharist of Easter
  • No childcare offered

  • Good Friday, 5:15 p.m.
  • Easter Vigil (Saturday), 7:15 p.m

Confessions During Holy Week

Confession (or Reconciliation) is a sacramental rite in which those who repent may confess their sins to God in the presence of a priest and receive assurance of pardon and the grace of absolution.

During Holy Week, our clergy is available in the Ascension Chapel Prayer Room at these times (no reservation required):

Monday, April 14 • 12-1 pm & 5-6 pm
Tuesday, April 15  • 12-1 pm & 5-6 pm
Wednesday, April 16  • 12-1 pm & 5-6 pm

ALTAR OF REPOSE

The Gospels of both Matthew and Mark recount how Jesus, after celebrating the Passover with his disciples and instituting the Eucharist, went to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. He took Peter, James, and John with him and three times asked them, “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” In this, we find both a pattern to imitate and an invitation to join with Christ to keep watch and pray as we move from Maundy Thursday into Good Friday.

Keep Watch at the Altar of Repose

All are invited to keep watch with the Blessed Sacrament at the altar of repose from the end of the Maundy Thursday service until the morning of Good Friday. Sign up to participate in one-hour increments for this unique opportunity to pray with Jesus and enter even more deeply into the mystery of Jesus’ love and passion.
