Reading While Black Class

Reading While Black: Biblical Interpretation and the Black Ecclesial Tradition

The Apostle Paul says that "all scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness." How do we faithfully read Scripture to train us in righteousness amid the experience of being black in America? At a time when some within the African American community are questioning the place of the Christian faith in the struggle for justice,

New Testament scholar and author of Reading While BlackFr. Esau McCaulley, argues that reading Scripture from the perspective of the Black Church tradition is most profitable to counteract racism in our cultural moment. In this 8-week Sunday School class, join Fr. Joe Dewey to study McCaulley's book and discuss its implications for our reading of Scripture. Copies of the book are available in the Bookstore to purchase and read prior to each class.
